Every time a MetalMetric user adds a vault item with a purchase price and seller name, we compute the premium over spot at the time of purchase using their recorded spot-at-purchase price. Premiums are averaged across all transactions per dealer and weighted by recency — purchases in the last 90 days count 3× more than older data. All data is anonymized.
Rating is a composite of average premium (lower is better), consistency (low variance), and transaction volume. Dealers with fewer than 10 transactions are marked as "Limited Data."
No affiliate links. MetalMetric has no financial relationship with any dealer listed here. Rankings are based purely on user-reported data.
The dealer with the lowest premium changes week to week as spot prices and inventory shift. The comparison table above ranks dealers by average premium over spot, updated weekly from real MetalMetric purchase data. For silver, large online dealers typically run 3–6% over spot on standard rounds and bars. For gold, premiums on 1oz coins from major dealers typically range from 2–5% over spot. The best way to find the current lowest premium is to check the live table and filter by metal type.
All premium data is computed from real purchases entered by verified MetalMetric users. When a user adds a vault item, they record the purchase price, quantity, and seller. MetalMetric captures the spot price at time of purchase and computes the exact premium paid. Premiums are averaged across all transactions and weighted by recency — purchases in the last 90 days count 3× more than older data. Dealers with fewer than 10 transactions are flagged as "Limited Data" and excluded from Best-for chip rankings.
Dealer comparison data is recalculated every Sunday using the full transaction history weighted by recency. The 8-week trend sparkline shows how a dealer's average premium has moved over the past two months. A green downward trend means premiums have been falling — generally a good sign for buyers. As more MetalMetric users track purchases, each dealer's average becomes more statistically reliable.
Yes. MetalMetric Pro and Elite users see a personal "Your Premium" figure alongside the community average directly in the comparison table. This shows the exact premium you have paid at each dealer across all your tracked purchases, plus a delta indicator showing whether you are beating or trailing the community average. Track your purchases at metalmetric.com/vault and upgrade to Pro or Elite to unlock this view.
The savings depend on order size and the premium spread between dealers. On a 10oz silver order at $32 spot, the difference between a 3% and 6% premium dealer is $9.60 — roughly one-third of an ounce of silver back in your pocket. On a 1oz gold order at $3,200 spot, a 1% premium difference is $32. Use the savings calculator above the table to enter your order size and metal and instantly see the dollar difference between the best and worst premium dealers in the current dataset.
Yes. MetalMetric verified local partner stores — including Outer Banks Jewelers in Kill Devil Hills, NC and South Florida Gold & Diamond in South Florida, FL — appear in the dealer comparison table with a "Local Partner" badge. Local partner stores offer in-person inspection before purchase and a QR code at checkout that logs the purchase directly into the customer's MetalMetric vault. Premium data for local partners is populated as MetalMetric users submit purchases.
